What are local citations?

A citation is any place online that lists your business name, address, and phone number. Your Google Business Profile, Yelp, Angi, the Better Business Bureau, chamber of commerce pages, trade directories, and Facebook all count. Google reads those listings as corroboration. When the same details show up the same way in a lot of places, it has more reason to believe the business is real and to trust the address it is ranking.

The part that trips contractors up is consistency. An old phone number on one directory, a suite number on another, and "Co." on one but "Company" on the next all pull in different directions. Cleaning that up is unglamorous and it is one of the first things worth doing, along with the profile itself.
