Is Hibu Worth It for a Home Service Business?

Hibu and Sloan’s Websites both build the site for you. The difference is how you pay, what you can see before you sign, and what you are tied into. Most reviews of Hibu repeat the same warnings without numbers. Here are the facts on both from Hibu’s own pages and documents, and what each costs over two years.

What Hibu Is

Hibu is a digital marketing company for local businesses, home services included. It was formerly Yellowbook (the US arm of the Yell group), is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was bought by the private equity firm H.I.G. Capital in 2021, and acquired the marketing firm RevLocal in 2024 (Wikipedia, read October 17, 2026).

Its platform, Hibu One, bundles a website it calls a Smart Site ("built and optimized for you, by experts"), managed SEO, paid ads on Google, Facebook and other networks, listings management, review generation, email and text marketing, and a dashboard (hibu.com, read October 17, 2026). It is a done-for-you service, not a do-it-yourself builder.

What Hibu Costs Over Two Years, Next to a Flat-Fee Site

Hibu does not publish a price, so the only public number is the $449 a month that Capterra lists for Hibu One (read October 17, 2026). Over two years that is $10,776, before any setup fee or ad spend your quote adds. Our prices are published, so here is the same two years on each plan:

  • Get Online: $750 build + $25 a month = $1,350 over two years.
  • Get Booked: $1,250 build + $75 a month = $3,050 over two years.
  • Local SEO plan: $297 a month with the website included = $7,128 over two years, no contract.

It is not the same scope: a Hibu package can include paid ads, email and text marketing, which we do not run. But if what you need is a website that brings calls from Google, that is the price difference you are deciding on, and you can check every number on our pricing page.

The other thing the reviews repeat is that owners lose their site when they leave. Hibu’s own technical documents say the client owns domains Hibu buys for them, while the site itself is hosted on Hibu’s platform. So ask two separate questions in writing: who owns the domain, and can you take the website files with you. With us, both answers are yes.

When Hibu Makes Sense, and the Flat-Fee Alternative

It can be, if you want one company to run your ads, email, texting and listings as well as the website, and you are comfortable with a monthly subscription whose price is quoted to you rather than published. Hibu is the broader package.

It is a harder fit if you mainly need a website that brings calls from Google and you want to know the price, see the work and keep the site before you commit. Sloan’s Websites fits a home service business that wants a flat price and no contract because you see a free mockup first, the build is a fixed fee, and you own the site whatever you decide later.

Hibu Reviews: What Is on the Record

The Better Business Bureau rates Hibu Inc. (King of Prussia, Pennsylvania) A+. Hibu is not BBB accredited, and the profile showed no complaints filed in the last three years and no customer reviews when we read it on October 17, 2026.

Most of the reviews that come up for "Hibu reviews" are about working there (Glassdoor, Reddit) or are posted by Hibu itself. Owner complaints do exist on sites such as PissedConsumer and ComplaintsBoard, mostly about minimum terms and cancelling; those are individual, unverified posts, so read them as questions to ask rather than facts.

Before signing with any marketing company, Hibu or us, get three things in writing: the minimum term, how to cancel, and what happens to your website and domain if you leave.

What Sloan’s Does Differently

You see a real design with your business name on it within 24 hours, for free. If you like it, the build is $750 or $1,250 flat, or included in the $297 a month local SEO plan, which has no contract and a 90-day more-calls guarantee. The site goes live in under a week, and you own it.

It works. ER Landscaping went from 3 to 166 organic visitors in six months and got six new customers (Google Search Console), and Base Basements reached number one in the Louisville map pack for basement remodeling. Every feature is listed in what's in a Sloan's home services website.

FAQ

Hibu Alternative FAQ

What does Hibu cost?

Hibu does not publish a price list; its site says pricing is custom. Capterra lists the Hibu One plan at $449 a month (read October 17, 2026). Ask Hibu for a written quote that includes any setup fee and the minimum term.

Is Hibu worth the money?

It depends on what you need. If you want ads, email, texting and listings run by one company, Hibu covers more channels than we do. If you mainly need a website that brings calls from Google at a known price, a flat-fee build you can see first is usually the better value. Our prices are on the pricing page.

How do I get out of a Hibu contract?

Hibu does not publish its contract terms, so the answer is in your signed agreement. Read the minimum term and the cancellation clause, then ask Hibu in writing how to cancel and how to keep your domain. Hibu’s own technical docs say the client owns domains Hibu buys for them.

Is Hibu an American company?

Hibu Inc. is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with an office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. It was formerly Yellowbook, the US arm of the UK Yell group, and has been owned by H.I.G. Capital since 2021 (Wikipedia).

What is a good Hibu alternative for a home service business?

If you want the site built for you without a long subscription, Sloan’s Websites builds a free mockup within 24 hours, charges a flat fee for the build, and has no contract on the SEO plan. See your free mockup before deciding.
